Lighting is an important element in the bathroom. We facilitate your choice with these practical tips and trends.
Tip 1: think globally
The bathroom lighting is as important as the rest of the House. Think about space as for the other parts, and vary the types of frame: ceiling lights (general lighting), lights (headlights), recessed spots (bright accents) and suspended lamps (lighting). The whole exceeds the sum of its parts, it is the combination that makes the whole beautiful and functional.
Tip 2: think functionally
Choose specific lighting for each function and use a circuit that is different for each of them. Why light up any room we want simply to relax in the bath? Provide a switch for relaxation, a bath / shower, a makeup in front of the mirror, etc. If your bathroom is small with a limited number of light points, plan a lighting dimmer to create moods.
Tip 3: night light
If there is a toilet in your bathroom, connect the lighting at night. So, you can make a health pass the night without accident. A red light is ideal for the eyes and the brain, as it does not interrupt the sleep stage too suddenly, unlike light blue or white.
Tip 4: choose the fluorescent lamp that suits
Nothing is more frustrating than insufficient lighting when you’re in front of the mirror in the bathroom. A fluorescent lamp is ideal for front lighting, but the choice does not stop there. There are numbers on each fluorescent lamp: 840, 830 and 940… The first indicates the color rendering and the last 2, the color temperature. A fluorescent lamp does therefore not always a cold light and lasts. Decide what is most important to you (a cooler light is better in a modern bathroom, a warm light, in a romantic bathroom) and make your choice on that basis. Fluorescent lamps whose first digit is 9 are closest to natural light for the color rendering.
ip 5: several points of light
It’s a common mistake not to provide only a single point of light in the center of the bathroom as basic lighting. Plan rather 3 light points of 20 W (250 ml) rather than one of 50 W (635 lm): the more you spread the light, better. It creates more atmosphere.
Tip 6: zen
The wellness in the bathrooms facilities are more frequent, and lighting plays a crucial role. A suitable and peaceful lighting provides more serenity. If RGB systems met great success to create Rainbow bath rooms, more refined with more subtle nuances color palettes have a clear preference today. White, for example, has a whole spectrum of shades from pure white to white hot and even slightly orange.
Tip 7: avoid the spots
Avoid the spots above the bath, because they are blinding when you’re in the bath and look upward. It goes same for the toilet. Avoid always spots exactly to the place to light up. Discreet or indirect lighting is more suitable. If the space and possibilities are limited and you have no other choice than a base above the bath light, choose a frame with diffusing glass.
Tip 8: long live the LED lighting
According to abbreviation finder, the success of LED technology has also changed the lighting in the bathrooms. Do you remember old skies starred with expensive fibres of glass to mimic the stars on the ceiling? The LED lighting allows to integrate very small bright dots in the ceiling as for the former star skies but affordable way. You can turn on a separate group of lamps by switch and area (for example, above the bath, shower, sink).
And trends 2015
Lighting as a piece of furniture
We can go even further in the creation of atmosphere. Lighting can become a part of your furniture. Install a band LED under the bath to give the impression that it floats, integrate LED lamps little energy in the glass of the shower wall, in the sink tap, in the head shower or even in the ground or the wall tile. Attention: this lighting is a gimmick and little functional value. In addition to these bright accents, always plan a functional lighting in each area.
Automation in the bathroom
At one time, home automation seemed to belong to a distant future, but it is more and more common, also in the bathroom. How does it work? Think more in terms of ‘switches’ but of ‘functions’, as “take a bath”, a “shower” and “make-up”. Set each function in your home automation system and just press the button to change all your bathroom. For the function “take a bath”, the basic lighting decreases by 10%, for example, the temperature rises, the shutters close and the radio turns on at a certain volume. To “take a shower” or “make-up”, the environment changes again completely. Home Automation is the new way to live the bathroom.
